Testimonials

My mum was a resident at The Hollies for a short time throughout June 2025. We want to pass on our sincere appreciation for the excellent care mum received from all the staff and management team during her stay. All the team made it their business to make sure they understood what she needed and when, which was extremely challenging with her health status. Her safety and comfort was always the priority. From the first contact with The Hollies Manager, to mums moving day and throughout her stay, everything was absolutely straightforward. The management team are highly responsive, professional and respectful. We can't be more thankful for the care received, both for my mum and for my dad as he experienced this major life challenge as well. Thank you to each and everyone of The Hollies staff and broader Garforth Care Homes team.

My dad has been a resident here for approx 12 months. I often ask him how he feels and without prompting he says 'they are kind to me here and help me'.... I couldn't really ask for anything more! When I have had any concerns / questions they are answered quickly and efficiently.

We are so please mum is in this care home, the staff are friendly and nothing is too much for them to do for mum. The home is clean well looked after and lots of different activities each day. Would highly recommend.

The Hollies is a lovely 28 bed residential care home. It feels like a family home environment with it being a smaller care home. Thats definitely what I liked as it's more individualised. They have activity coordinators who plan loads of daily activities and entertainment for the residents. They provide lovely home cooked meals that are cooked fresh and they use good quality products.. They have family meetings usually every 2/3 months to ask if there's anything they could be doing better or just to keep you updated on what's going on in the home. The GP visits weekly and they have a hairdresser and a chiropodist who come regularly. The manager is great as are the care staff. They are very approachable and accommodating. They want to hear the residents and their families/friend's opinions and are always open to any new ideas to improve an already great care home. Most importantly my mum is very happy safe and well cared for living there.

Visiting my sister-in-law on a regular basis, the staff are always very friendly and attentive and very caring, nothing is ever too much trouble, and always on hand to attend to any needs. I've visited a few homes in the past few years and I will say the staff at The Hollies are by far the best I've come across.

All the staff are super friendly and you can see they genuinely care for the residents. I was pleasantly surprised with all the activities they provided the residents for enrichment. I would definitely recommend this care home.

We chose The Hollies for Mum because of the way it felt. It may not be a modern, purpose-built place but the staff make it feel like home. They are kind, personable and friendly and have the residents' best interests at heart. It is stressful placing a loved one in care but if we had to choose again, we would choose The Hollies.

Grandma has been there seven weeks and settled in extremely well. All the staff are excellent and very attentive.

I am always made extremely welcome when I visit The Hollies, the staff are very friendly and helpful the manager and deputy are very approachable they have made some improvements in the home resulting in a caring and friendly feel around the home and the care being very person-centred.

My dad has lived at The Hollies Garforth for nearly 5 years. He is happy and very settled. The staff are all fantastic and provide loving and holistic care. They treat each resident with dignity patience and respect. My dad has dementia and has had ups and downs with his condition, especially in the last 12 months requiring lots of meetings with social services. The care home manager has been fantastic! She's been a wonderful support to me as well as a fantastic voice and advocate for my dad. I really can't thank her enough, it's truly obvious how much she cares for the residents and treats them like a member of her own family. The home is beautiful inside and the food is amazing, my dad comments every time I visit how he enjoys it. The home has activities every day which are good for mind stimulation but are also fun and interesting. I feel truly comforted and assured my dad is safe and getting well looked after. Thank you to all the staff you're all amazing.

The manager and deputy engage with staff and residents in a really warm and positive way. The care shown to all the residents is a joy to see. Not the poshest but definitely one of the most person-centred.

Hollies is an excellent care home. My mum is very happy here. The staff are amazing. Nothing is too much trouble. They are caring, compassionate, friendly and welcome me and my family every time we visit. There is a lovely atmosphere and mum's room is always immaculate. The management and senior care assistants are professional, friendly and very approachable. It is a very well-managed care home with lots of fun activities arranged regularly. Never a dull moment. As a family, we couldn?t have wished for a better place for mum to be.

Both my husband was and my uncle is very well cared for.

My mother has been in The Hollies care home since December 2020, when it was nearing the end of the first lockdown, due to the Covid 19 pandemic. I myself have never been into the care home due to the national lockdown and stayed away from my mother until it was safer to visit her. When the restrictions were lifted, I was allowed to visit my mother but only as far as the conservatory which is situated at the end of the property. Following all the national guidelines. I can only comment on what I have seen from the conservatory and my mother's appearance, wellbeing and hygiene. I have observed that there seems to be a lack of stimulation and entertainment for the residents and I would love to see some of this in the near future. It must be a very long day from getting out of bed to back to bed just walking around or sitting in a chair, watching television. My mother seems disinterested in television and due to her being very introverted, she tends to sit back and do nothing.

Dawn Roberts
Daughter of Resident/Service User

The Hollies is well run and I know that my father is safe and well cared for. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and they always make me very welcome when I visit Dad. My father enjoys the food and it is varied with regular drinks and snacks throughout the day, in addition to the main meal at lunchtime. I'm always kept informed if there are any issues with Dad and it's never a problem getting through on the telephone, which is very important to a family member. We were all kept informed by phone of any changes to government guidelines during the pandemic.

Maria Dragicevic
Daughter of Resident/Service User

The staff are all extremely caring and concerning when my mum is not feeling as good as usual. There is plenty for them to do to keep occupied. There is a good choice of food. The Hollies has recently changed ownership and they have brought lots of new ideas and activities.

Daughter of Resident/Service User

Although the building is not modern inside, I gave found the staff becoming, knowledgeable about my father and very patient in their dealings with residents.

Son of Resident/Service User

Experience superb! Nothing is too much trouble for The Hollies staff, who are at all times attentive and caring. This applies to both the physical care and the emotional needs of the residents who are treated like and looked upon as family. For the 17+ months she was there, I always knew that she was being looked after and her self-contentment was obvious when visiting, which I did 4 times a week. I even felt able to go on holiday with a clear conscience! I cannot recommend it too highly!

Meet the Owner

Harvey Zemmel, owner of Garforth Residential, has 30 years’ experience as an advisor, operator and financier in care of the elderly.

Over the past three decades in healthcare, he has helped to raise the standard and quality of service in elderly care facilities across the UK. It remains his goal to this day.

He has personally been involved in projects involving scores of care homes, with many hundreds of beds and hundreds of staff.

Between 1997 and 2007, he also built a residential care home group from scratch to operating nine homes with hundreds of residents and staff.

Care and customer service always come first.

He believes that nowhere is this ethic more important than in the care of our elderly family members—but it is where some larger organizations struggle.

In both of the homes that came under his management in Garforth in 2018, Harvey has built teams that reflect his own values of care, where the needs of residents are foremost.

He considers this as the only way to provide the individual in care with quality of life and the family with peace of mind.
